*I received a free copy of this book with thank you to the author and Rachel Gilbey at Rachel'southward Random Resources blog tours. The conclusion to review and my opinions are my own.*

Mr Shine and the little beams are all keen on a spot of drawing – my forte lies more with words than pictures! – then they were all very excited to receive the latest activity book from the talented Lexi Rees.

The volume contains page after page of prompts, for items to detect and draw: objects within and exterior; personal possessions; nature; animals; foods; clothing; people; body parts… you name it and this volume has a page of cartoon prompts for it!

Each prompt page has a respective nine square grid (we chose to partition sheets of paper instead, to continue the volume reusable) and the idea is that the child/ren scout around the vicinity, trying to notice examples that fit the category theme and then draw them in a foursquare until they've filled the grid.

Perfect for party games, days out, long car journeys or rainy twenty-four hour period amusement, yous tin use this book over and once again – children, teens and adults – to hone your drawing skills or but to have a fleck of fun.

Minishine and Mr Shine got quite captivated in competing for who could draw items of article of clothing the quickest and whose drawings look the all-time. Babybows and I are far less competitive (and a little lazy) and so nosotros enjoyed just quietly leafing through the volume and chatting about what we could see to fit each category, without the effort of picking upward a pencil!

I take reviewed other resource books by Lexi Rees (see The Book Dragon Order and Wicked Writing Skills) and would wholeheartedly recommend any and all of them for entertaining and engaging children with fine art and literacy skills respectively. A nifty addition to any home or schoolhouse resource set!

My daughters (ages nine and thirteen) and I are huge fans of Lexi's books and this is another great collaboration with illustrator, Molly - so simple yet so inspired! Both of my daughters love drawing then this book immediately appealed to them and they couldn't expect to get started and the peachy thing is that in that location are no long or complex instructions to read through before you tin go to work drawing!

The volume is based around the concept of a scavenger hunt and, thankfully for me and my limited artistic abilities, it sets the scene by inviting united states to describe things how nosotros would like them to be and emphasising that it is not an art competition!  The topics are cleaved down into distinct areas - in the house, nature, food, animals etc and this gives the book a elementary but effective structure that helps to maintain focus.

It was actually interesting to run across which sections my daughters gravitated towards.  I have a 9 year old who would eat pasta for every meal if she was given the run a risk and and then the chapter on eating, and especially pasta, really grabbed her.  She drew nine pasta shapes from her memories of our pre-Covid vacation to Italy!  My eldest girl is a very talented artist and loves to draw horses in detail, and the animals chapter encouraged her to branch out into cartoon some new creatures - including the stick insects which she has as pets!

The volume provided a squeamish balance between things that my daughters were already very comfy drawing and new ideas/additions to enhance their pictures. Having recently moved house the Outside chapter (chapter 3) proved rather inspiring and they enjoyed looking at and recreating a version of the stained glass window nosotros are lucky enough to have likewise as the feature door knocker.

We dipped into this book as a family unit and it provided a different take on a scavenger hunt for us and a lot of fun as a family as we are revealed our drawings!

Is there no cease to Lexi'south talents? Today's review is something very unique and will make a great gift for an artisitic and craft loving child aged 7-12. To be fair, I call up anyone who likes to putter, jot or draw would find delight in this.

Each section is themed and within each department there is a page for each idea. The aim is to use everyday things from around the habitation or shut by to inspire fine art piece of work. I love how Lexi has used items that are constitute in well-nigh homes or can be gathered easily, making this an accesible art activity without needing any boosted equipment.

Once you've had lots of fun completeting the scavenger hunt and finding the nigh interesting versions of the items, information technology'due south fourth dimension to sketch. On the correct hand page in that location are nine boxes. Each one for a different sketch using the items. You could apply this to explore shapes, colours, angles, perpsectives, a larger diverseness of items, new designs etc. The possibilities are endless.

The concept encourages children and adults to look carefully at the beauty and fascination in the familiar and everyday world around us that nosotros oftentimes miss or take for granted.

The illustrations within the book are colourful, inspiring and yet manage to not exist too complicated in a manner people may find offputting. The compliment the book perfectly and Molly O' Donoghue has done an astonishing task to help inspire young artists.

A bang-up gift to any shelf and a perfect stocking filler.

The hunts themselves are on different themes, including: my house, my stuff, exterior, people, faces and nature. It is illustrated throughout by Molly O'Donoghue and she gives tips to help budding artists, also.

The wide range of hunts mean at that place are lots of opportunities to look more than closely at the world around you lot and, although it is aimed at children aged half dozen to 12 years of historic period, I remember it is the sort of book that anyone could savour. It is a great mode to pace back, allow the earth and its troubles fade into the groundwork and concentrate on the now and the globe around you, noticing the little details that we're oftentimes just too busy to see and appreciate. This is a book to encourage users to be detectives, searching, examining and exploring the world around them and recording their findings - a really fun book!

Thank yous to the writer for my re-create of this book which I have enjoyed exploring and have reviewed honestly.

The text on each folio is brusk and friendly merely not besides simplistic, perfect for the target historic period group of six-12 years onetime in my opinion. The bright illustrations also help to spark the imagination and enhance the warm, welcoming feeling as you get to know this book.

In my son's words: I would give this book iv / five stars because information technology helped me to merely relax and draw. I liked that it gives you ideas of what to draw merely doesn't say what you can't draw. It says that it doesn't have to exist perfect and I similar the fact that y'all accept to go somewhere in your house or outside to look for things to draw. I'd recommend it to my friends who like to draw.
